Now Write the speech

What is the purpose of your speech?

Why are you speaking in public?

What do you want your audience to gain from it?

What are the goals of the speech?

Think about the situation. What do you want different at the end of the speech?
Check with the organiser of the event what their objectives are.

Read any literature on the event that you shall be speaking at, this will give useful information.

Speak to other presenters to avoid overlapping

What room will you be speaking in? Size? Outside noise? Lighting?

Seating arrangement? Acoustics? Microphone?

Ask yourself:

• Am I interesting?
• What is my purpose? Try to summarise you purpose in one line.
• How can you grab attention?
• What should be different at the end of my presentation?

The Structure:

• Start with an attention grabber which will grab your audience's attention.

• What is an attention grabber?
• An attention grabber or trigger is a means of grabbing your audience's attention. It could be a question, a joke, a recollection, a short film or a prop.
  

Include WIIFM: What's in it for me? Why should your audience listen?

Introduce a theme, or a central idea. How would you put your speech on a T shirt?

• Write below the main contents of the speech
• You should seek to interest inform and involve your audience.
• Use stories, personal examples, humor.
• Use presentation aids.
  

Conclude with theme and attention grabber.
